Course Overview

The Offshore Structures course serves as an introductory training program for offshore inspection personnel. The main aim of this course is to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to discuss survey requirements and effectively collaborate with a class surveyor.

Aligned with class requirements and documentation, the course aims to familiarize personnel with various structures and components found on offshore assets. It also aims to enhance their understanding of class requirements across a wide range of non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection methods, including special periodical surveys (SPS).

The course is specifically designed for individuals who will be involved in understanding survey requirements and reporting systems. The inspections covered in the course encompass a broad range of components, from A-frames on the derrick structure to subsea hydrophones on pontoons, and everything in between

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, personnel attending this course will leave with a better understanding of offshore structure components and the various terminologies used. Personnel will be educated in the use of inspection programs and reporting software packages as set by the class society.

They will be made familiar with offshore structures i.e. tension leg platforms (TLP), jack-ups, semi-submersibles, drill ships, lifting barges, floating production storage offloading (FPSO) and hybrids.

This aims to create a solid foundation for those who work on offshore assets.

Course Content

This course is flexible and will be tailored to your company’s specific needs. Below is an overview of the standard course, which includes but is not limited to:

• Limitations and advantages of NDT methods used on offshore structures
• The basic principles behind inspection programs in accordance with class requirements to cover the following:
  • Class Requirements and Inspection Methods
  • Terminologies and definitions used in offshore structures
  • Class Survey Requirements (Periodical Surveys/ Intermediate Surveys)
  • Access systems for derrick, tank, critical connections and void spaces
  • Reporting software packages for inspections
  • An understanding of isometric drawings, asymmetric and plant and identification (P&ID)
  • Communication with attending surveyors 
  • Safety
• Documentation and reporting facilities
