Course Overview

Radiographic Interpretation is often used by personnel to interpret the results taken from radiographic tests and evaluate these in accordance with industry standards. This course is aimed at all personnel who are responsible for the interpretation of radiographs established by radiographic testing personnel.

The advantages of Radiographic Interpretation are its ability to provide detailed images on permanent records of the internal structure and its capability to detect subsurface defects.

Interpreting radiographic images requires a high level of expertise and training, as different types of defects may present themselves differently in the radiograph. Skilled inspectors use reference standards and specific acceptance criteria to determine the acceptability of the inspected components based on the observed indications.

Course Objectives

Within certification, Level 2 personnel may be authorised and qualified by the employer to:

  • Understand the differences between gamma and x-ray systems
  • Determine the limitations of its application
  • Interpret codes, standards and procedures to identify their application
  • Prepare interpretation equipment and settings
  • Evaluate density and sensitivity requirements
  • Perform the interpretation tasks
  • Interpret and evaluate the results of the inspection
  • Complete and endorse inspection reports and records
  • Supervise all tasks carried out by personnel at Level 1 or Level 2
