Ship Hull Survey (SHS)
Ship Hull Surveys (SHS) is a method of ultrasonic gauging surveys to determine remaining wall thicknesses and measurements on ship hull structures and associated components.
Level bespoke
Course Overview
Ultrasonic thickness gauging is effective in inspecting ship hull plating and the various structures within ship design. It uses ultrasonic methods on steel structures to determine the nominal or remaining wall thicknesses from surveys in accordance with the relevant classification societies. These include Lloyds Shipping, The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and many more.
This bespoke course is aimed at ultrasonic thickness technicians, who already hold ultrasonic gauging qualifications, for example, those who have completed our Ultrasonic Testing and Inspection of Wrought products courses. This is for personnel who are required to carry out Ship Hull Surveys on all classes of ship structures.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch for more information.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, personnel will leave with a better understanding of ship hull components and the various terminologies used. Personnel will be educated in the use of the reporting software packages as set by the class society i.e. Argonaut and Pegasus.
They will be made familiar with ship components which are subject to ultrasonic thickness gauging, providing an increased awareness of ship hull gauging survey requirements in accordance with the class requirements.
This aims to create a solid foundation for those who work within the shipping industry.
